ABOUT US
Disabled individuals are entitled to the same rights and privileges as the rest of society.
Who we are
Founded in 1991, STATUS Employment is a registered charity (No. 1064752) that aims to assist disabled people in finding and retaining paid employment. Using a process called supported employment, we have been able to help our candidates to successfully find, and remain, in work.
At STATUS, we provide support to people with learning, physical and sensory disabilities and people with mental health issues.
We represent many parts of London and have offices in Croydon, and Lambeth.
Trustees
We currently have 4 members on the Trustees’ Board. The Chair is Mr D. Jones whose experience includes his post as the Managing Director of a number of local newspapers. Mr D. Pigott has been the Marketing Manager for Natwest and now runs his own consultancy firm. Mr S. Aselford, a prior service user, is disabled and previously spent 28 years as a Factory Hand for a sheltered workshop. Mr Aselford was supported into his current employment as Inclusion Coordinator with People First by Status Employment. Charles Sebestyen is the latest member of the Trustee’s.
Welcome CHARLES SEBESTYEN to the Board of Trustees
Charles trained as an economist at the London School of Economics and spent his working life with The Economist Intelligence Unit, the Metal Box Company, J. Sainsbury and Debenhams plc. He retired ten years ago and, soon after, became a magistrate at Croydon. He retired from the magistracy in 2007 but remains active in the local residents’ association affairs and his church. He is married; his favorite spare time activities include walking, opera, theatre and the cinema.
Supported Employment
Supported employment relies heavily on a process called systematic instruction, which was established in the United States by Marc Gold. The aim of systematic instruction is to teach both individuals who find it particularly difficult to learn and people with severe disabilities. Supported employment services were established in London and South Wales in 1984, and included creative job matching and on-the-job training on employers' premises.
STATUS Consultants work extensively with candidates to determine the right job for each individual. Once in work, STATUS Consultants provide on-the-job training and/or support - depending on the individual needs of each candidate.
More information on supported employment can be obtained at the Supported Employment website.
